More cards in response to my request for positive vibes in my job search (I'm now doing temp work). These are delightful! They came from the equally delightful Lena.

Swap from Massachusetts

Donna, one of my LiveJournal friends, also likes postcards. She sent me two from Massachussetts in return for two from Calgary. I'm pretty sure the second one is my first recipe postcard.

Another mermaid from Tina!

Tina is so wonderful. She sent me another mermaid through the Game of Rare Countries, played in the Postcrossing Canada Facebook group. She sent a card to Slovakia (879 users at the time).

I met Tina at the first Calgary Postcrossing meetup on October 19, and she is even more awesome in person.

Now on Etsy

I've started listing some of my own postcards on Etsy. Stargazing Mermaid Postcards. Here are some product shots:

Photo of a postcard and a pen for size reference. The postcard is a photograph of a wolf
Photograph of a cat and a postcard. The postcard is a close-up of the cat's face. The cat's name is Hermione and she's adorable.

Merci pour les plages et les grèves de la Gaspésie!

From Russia with RU-3020978

This is a very sunny and warm postcard, considering it was sent from Siberia. It actually depicts a scene in Italy. I like it because it reminds me of vacations in Dubrovnik.

Ships' Figureheads - Official Postcrossing card

Linda wrote that these sculptures from the Mariner's Museums are a little like mermaids! They're definitely related to the sea and I think they're terrific.

The first Calgary Postcrossing meetup

Yesterday, October 19, was the first Calgary Postcrossing meetup. I designed a special card for it and 99 cards were taken (I kept a blank one for myself).

There were eight Postcrossers, including a young lady. We had surprise guests - the Postcrossing mail carriers!!!

One of the attendees contacted Maria and Paolo after the Calgary meetup was announced. The mail carriers arrived recently via registered mail and visited us. We had fun with them. Here they are on top of a local mailbox.

Water from China - official Postcrossing card

This beautiful card came from Gwen in China. The card and stamps were chosen to reflect my love of the sea. Her message was sweet, especially the phrase "I hope you will be loved." Just what I needed today.

Lovely postcard from China, of ocean waves on a beach. Received through Postcrossing.

Swap - Lobster from PEI

The third and final swap from Talk Like a Pirate Day! Cheyenne had some wee pirates in her crew that were suffering from scurvy, so she was a bit delayed in throwing this message into a bottle. I love this merry lobster!

Mermaid postcard!

I looooove mermaids, so I was really happy that Tina sent me this colourful beauty. It also has sparkly aqua washi tape and colourful stickers on the back.

This got here super fast - because we live in the same city. We haven't met yet. She sent me a card as thanks for my sending a surprise postcard to her niece. Thanks for brightening up my day!

Official Postcrossing from China

I may have squeaked a little when I pulled this out of my mailbox. I love panda bears, I love this adorable card! I saw the panda mama and cub when I was at the San Diego Zoo in February, making this card a little more special.

This one comes from David of Par Avion. He's the one who suggested I start a postcard blog - thanks! I'm having fun sharing the cards, including this one!

Meetup card from Cologne, Germany

On October 19, I'm hosting the first Calgary Postcrossing Meetup. I've designed a special card for it. Mieke from Germany swapped me this card from a meeting in Cologne. Very pretty, and I had not realized that some Postcrossers use stickers or rubber stamps to "sign" the back of cards. I should look into that before our own meetup, because the group is going to be signing a lot of cards!

Swap - The Tunnels of Moose Jaw

This was a fun swap - in honour of Talk Like A Pirate Day, we wrote each other like a pirate! Krista sent this from Saskatchewan.

Now, I've been to the tunnels of Moose Jaw, but the Al Capone tour was sold out. So we went on a tour that taught us about life for the first Chinese immigrants in Moose Jaw. It was honest about discrimination and racism that was rather ... not the nicest way to wrap the weekend in which my brother got married. But very educational.

But the card is cool!
